Plato was a Greek philosipher, mathematician, writer, and founder of the Academy in Athens, which was the first institution of higher learner in the western world. Thirty-six dialogues and thirteen letters have traditionally been ascribed to Plato, though modern scholarship doubts the authenticity of at least some of these.
